“Ingrid’s heartfelt memoir and cookbook is a reminder that good food tastes even better when it is based on the longing for family, and when it is served with the hospitality and love of a warm home.” Danny Meyer, NYC restaurateur, Owner of Gramercy Tavern & CEO of the Union Square Hospitality Group
Ingrid Croce opened Croce’s Restaurant and Jazz Bar in 1985 as a tribute to her late husband, legendary singer-songwriter Jim Croce. Her dream was to create a dining experience that offered the warmth, music, and energy that she and Jim Croce shared in their home. Croce’s became a treasured San Diego landmark and an international destination for many visitors. It’s iconic menu offered a unique blend of Croce classics and imaginative American cuisine.
In Photographs and Memories, you’ll find all the signature Croce’s recipes that have become
customer favorites over the years, including:
- Warm Spinach Salad with Poached Figs in a sweet vanilla bean dressing,
- Sesame-Seared Sashimi Ahi with Japanese Vinaigrette, and
- Grilled Free-Range Chicken with Forest Mushroom Risotto.
Ingrid and Chef James Clark share some of their personal favorites, from Bordeaux-Braised Short Ribs with Mac-n-Cheese to Croce’s Famous French Onion Soup to the wonderfully decadent Caramel Apple Tart with Caramel Corn. Every recipe in Photographs and Memories has been paired with Croce’s Wine Spectator Award-winning wine list and many local craft beers.
“I hope when you open this book and prepare one of our dishes, you’ll feel some of the
warmth and comfort that made Croce’s one of San Diego’s most successful dining
destinations.” Ingrid Croce

When John Campbell was managing the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina, he asked restaurateur Ingrid Croce if he could use her warm spinach salad recipe on the menu. John says he was amazed by how many guests raved about the salad. This recipe was from Ingrid Croce’s Photographs and Memories, which won the 2013 San Diego Book Award in the published cookbook category.
